Posh camping: Your stay
“Privacy when we wanted it and mixing with other like minded people when we wanted, a perfect mix”
M. Irving Guiseley
Go walking through unspoilt hills, and dales, explore the delights of quaint local towns, York City or discover our magnificent coastline. (Don’t worry, we’ve got theme parks too!) Whatever you choose on your posh camping trip, a warm welcome awaits you in the camp. Join us for a drink by the fire pit and clay oven, snuggle down in the privacy of your own tent or check out the local bars! The tents are set into the woodland landscape over 15 acres of the 200 acre woodland. No tents are closer than 15metres to each other and many much further than that. Being in a quiet woodland you can expect to hear the murmur of voices and occasional laughter.
“My favourite bit?
Those enchanted evenings around the fire...”
M. Irving
What to Bring on Your Posh Camping Holiday
Clothes, toiletries, a torch, and food, (although we recommend you buy it near here and fresh) that’s pretty much it. Remember it can get cold at night and early morning, once the fire dies down, so it is a good idea to bring night socks and maybe even a hat and slippers. Out of the summer lots of layers, trapping air, is warmer than 1 or 2 thick layers, to keep toasty warm. If coming in very early Spring or late Autumn / winter you may wish to bring your sleeping bag for extra warmth. Insect repellent for certain times of year is wise, however the tents and beds do have mossie nets. Being near fires clothes can smell of wood smoke, so if your off to the opera keep your best dress under wraps.
House Keeping
You are sent a full inventory of what is available in the tent once you book. We want a place for you with as few rules and recommendations as possible and we generally achieve this as everyone, so far, enters into the spirit of the place, by not making too much noise in the night and respecting other guests. Any do’s and don’t we have are generally related to legal requirements and Health and Safety. One of these is no smoking in the tents, (as the canvas will smell and we may have to clean or replace it at a huge cost) and if you do smoke outside please ensure butts go out and are disposed of in bins. Also no pets can come onto the site as it deters wildlife. No naked flames in the tents other than when lighting lanterns and stoves.
Food
Eat and drink in your private suite in the woods, with the facilities provided in your tent. We also offer tea and wonderful cake at the "tea tent" for you to recharge your batteries after exploring or playing or just to kick back and relax. In the woods we have a small clay oven which can be used and is a fun activity in itself for young and not so young alike. We do have supplies of flour etc for you to make your own bread if you wish.
Indulge and go for it with our "Jollydays Breakfast Baskets". Proper posh camping breakfasts to set you up for the day and keep you going till high tea or even supper. We offer meat, vegetarian baskets for cooked breakfasts, and especially for high summer, a continental basket, all for 2, 4 or 6 people. We also do supper baskets to save you the hassle of shopping and preparing - just relax. The baskets change seasonally.
We also provide supper baskets delivered to your tent. The menu and prices are sent to you on booking. To view the menu, see the Jollydays supper baskets page.
We occasionally, and increasingly, have guest cooks, who come and prepare an evening meal so you don’t have to do a thing or leave the site. Food from fire cooked meats to vegan and vegetarian delights. We will keep you posted as and when we know this will happen.
Arrival and departure
We don’t mind when you arrive, however for a warm relaxed welcome it's best between 4 and 7pm (tents are generally ready from 4pm). Any earlier and your tent may not be ready, any later and we may be in full swing around the fire or have left for the day. We would be grateful if you let us know when you are planning to arrive.
Please vacate the tent at 10.30am on day of departure.
Cars and Parking
Some of the tents are very much off the beaten track and so cars cannot get close to them, for this and because we want to keep car movement and noise to a minimum cars are parked in a central area. We will assist with moving your things at the beginning and end of your stay to and from your tents (unless you arrive in the middle of the night in which case we’ll be fast asleep).
Children
We do ask parents to be responsible for their children. To keep the woodland as natural and as free as possible and not inhibit the movement of wildlife we do not fence areas off. There are shallow ponds close by in the wider woodland and some small water courses and drainage ditches.
Fires
We ask that the only fires are in your wood burning stove and BBQ. We have a central open fire for people to gather. Please understand we can’t have everyone having an open fire in the woodland it’s too much of a risk.
Dogs
Dogs, other than guide dogs, are not allowed at the camp due to wildlife.
