Events

We are not licensed for weddings but we can hold wedding celebrations and "informal" ceremonies OF ALL KINDS. Call or e-mail if you have a query. We can currently take up to 118 guests and arrange for hire marquees if one space is required for dining and dancing. We work with caterers including vegan and vegetarian or can work with your nominated caterers. We do rustic feasts and also collaborate with caterers such as organic vegetarian restaurant Goji in York and local outside caterers.

Courses

We occasionally hold courses and workshops, e.g. Yoga weekends and singing workshops which we post on the website with as much notice as possible.

Do you want a change of scene and a slower pace in a wonderful setting?

We offer free camping. Alistair, one of our most recent barter volunteers said it was "the best holiday in years" (and he worked really hard!). For 2011 we will be doing it from 31st March to the 3rd November for 1 to 4 people (sharing - so if 2 or more, you need to know each other) on a weekly basis in return for some work at the camp. The weeks run from Thursday to Thursday, and we ask for 5 hours work a day for 4 days (Fri, Sat, Sun, and Mon), 20 hours, leaving you with half days, each day, and Tuesday and Wednesday to do your own thing. Minimum length a week and maximum a month.

Tasks might include, depending on season;

  • Control of Brambles, bracken, and rhododendron (no chemicals)
  • Painting
  • General maintenance / housekeeping on tent turnarounds
  • Tree pruning, Gathering Firewood
  • Installing bird, owl and bat boxes.

Need to be 18 or over, in reasonable health and enthusiastic.

In return we offer accommodation in a Bell tent with 2 double futons that fold up to sofas during the day, all bedding, 2 ring gas hob and cooking utensils, use of the main camp fire, the shower tents, and a meal cooked by us for you on one of the evenings in the week.
