Autumn and Winter Camping / Glamping
Autumn and Winter Glamping
October, November and December is often warmer than March and April; winter camping is a growing phenomenon
Autumn
The season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, the leaves turning and still warmth in the ground from summer. Autumn is a fabulous time to visit Jollydays. The woodland is simply stunning, the busy summer has waned and the days closing in bring lots of opportunities to cosy up to the stove or campfire.
“Great holiday – fantastic way to camp”
Edinburgh
Each of our tents has it’s own wood burning stove, duvets, cosy blankets, and hot water bottles to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
While away the days making pumpkin soup, picking sloes (for gin, vodka and even whisky) in our beautiful countryside. Further afield, try bracing walks on the coast, conducting research in the local pubs or exploring York (without summer visitors) before having jacket potatoes, casseroles, and hot toddies by the fire.
“Thank you for such a wonderful week. The freedom that the children had was priceless”

Autumn and Winter weddings
We have an increasing number of requests for weddings at the camp. Summer is our busiest time, and summer weddings need to take a 3 night weekend at this time. However we can offer Spring, and in Autumn and Winter the woodland is still magical: the expectation of sun gone, the accommodation less expensive and you do not have to take the camp for 3 nights. Rugs, soft lighting, candles, fires, stoves, and rustic feasting will make for a unique memorable occasion.
Winter
Winter camping - are we mad? Well it’s on the rise as never before and with a 10Kw stove and hot showers in the tent there has never been a better way to experience it. The woodland protects you from the worst of the elements and my how breathtaking it looks in the frost and snow.
The short days give the perfect excuse to cosy up with candles and firelight, relax with friends, cook in the campfire and experiment with a myriad of hot toddies, or hot ciders and wine. If you want a bit more action the winter walking on gentle hills, dales, or on the coast, gives you more than enough choice. Christmas festivals abound and nowhere more so than York, perhaps the most festive city in Britain. Take in the wonderful Christmas markets, ice skating in the shadow of the castle keep, shop for unique presents, and loose yourself in the wonderful bars and restaurants.
“Thank you we loved it, toasty warm and posh”
Janey Lee Grace
Jollydays is probably the most unique campsite in Britain and we offer a variety of short breaks including the sought after new year period.
“We have had a lovely rest, so peaceful. Feel ready to go back to real life”

The year so far
March and April were surprisingly dry and warm during the day on sunny days, and the track became dusty. May had a burst of wet weather before Whit week and then became very hot. The first two weeks of June by contrast could have been December. A cold east wind persisted for 2 weeks and temperatures barely rose above 13 degrees during the day and got down to as low as 5 degrees. (temperatures not uncommon in November and December) It then got warm. July has been a mix of sunshine and very heavy bursts of rain. It was pointed out to me by a local farmer looking to harvest that it rained on St Swithin’s day here and so we could not expect good settled weather until well into August. By all accounts though we have had much better weather than other parts of the UK that have had a lot more rain. Since Mid August it’s been dry and warm.
See how last years Autumn and early winter temperatures panned out, and it was meant to be a hard winter. You can see from the temps a cold patch in late November / early December and then over new year.
Please note that Temperatures are taken in the shade, so it will feel warmer in the sun, and it also does not take into account any wind chill, which will make it feel colder in the wind.
